Synopsis
The fifth revelation-packed mission in the Alex Rider series! Still reeling from the terrible discovery he has made about his father, teenage MI6 superspy, Alex Rider, is determined to find out more. Travelling to Italy, he manages to infiltrate the glamorous world of Claudia Rothman, beautiful society hostess and member of the international criminal organization, Scorpia. She reveals that Alex's father was murdered by MI6, in an operation masterminded by Head of Special Operations, Mrs Jones. Shocked and angry, Alex faces a choice: to continue to work with the British security services, or to become an agent for Scorpia - and get revenge. "Scorpia" was a no. 1 bestsller, and the Alex Rider series has sold over 1 million copies in the UK alone!
Review:
I enjoyed Scorpia. It seems like Horowitz finally has the formula for Alex Rider books perfected. All of the previous books were excellent, but Scorpia stands out in my mind, not least because of the wondeful action sequences in the book. The climactic final battle is excellently written and is comparably exciting to actually seeing the events take place. It really is that well-written.
All the essential elements of a Rider novel are here, and more. The gadgets, the exotic villains, and this time, we get a far deeper look into Alex himself. It's hard to explain without spoiling some of the book, but we start to see exactly what Alex can and can't bring himself to do.
I would recommend Scorpia to children, teenagers, and adults alike
